Moving, Maybe

It has been almost two weeks since I arrived in Manila and I still haven't moved some of my clothes out of my bags. I can't say it's mostly laziness. There's this lingering feeling somewhere. Add to that the shock (yes, I have been in shock since December) of my mother finally allowing me to take full control of my ~destiny~ - Okay, future.

I'm adjusting to the city life again. It has been a year since I moved to Legazpi and I feel more like an outsider now. It's weird that I'm actually afraid of going out and commuting. I'm also afraid of the sun, and the heat, and the traffic, and horrible people. Gah.

I'm the new househelper now. Just kidding. While thinking of the different options a.ka. the different roads to success, I spend my time lounging around the house. I'm too fond of a local reality show and it's the only thing I watch the whole day. I don't get to do a lot of stuff because I'd rather sit and watch the live streaming the whole day (and get a really bad headache after).

I went out of the house yesterday (Yay!) to look for books and to buy a decent handy planner. This is the to-do list for today. I already accomplished 1, 2 and 3 but the local reality show got in the way again, so the Teux-Deux list is incomplete for today.

My allergies acted up once I started No. 1. This room is never dust-free and it always get worse at the end of the day. I also re-arranged stuff in my room. I had to ask my mom if it was okay that my bed is facing the door, away from the windows. I don't want to mess up some Chi, you know. I had a feeling it was bad luck, but I did it anyway. My room looks ridiculous now. All of the furniture is shoved to the left side of the room, leaving a big space for God-knows-what.

Sorry, but I'm using the procrastination power up today. Numbers 4 & 5 are moved for tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow... Anyway, Happy February!

Of Packages and Today's Events

Today is a pretty wicked day, thanks to these two wonderful packages I got from the courier. I know these are the type of things that should go into Ang Kartero (which, by the way, I haven't updated for a while). I still had half of my allowance in my account and thought, what the hell, I'll treat myself for enduring 6 months of the professional world. First one is from Fikafikafika which is owned by the lovely Liarnie and the latter is the order I got from Human Heart Nature.

The packaging is amazing. Never have I opened such a wondrous parcel (no offense to my mailpals, but this one tops it all). I want to re-seal the whole thing and open it up again just to feel that burst of something. I got the July-August issue of Frankie magazine from the shop, as well as a subway map postcard set. Usually with online sellers nowadays, it's all straight-up business talk, but it was such a joy talking to Liarnie. She's a fellow snail mail enthusiast and we exchanged a few e-mails about our frustrations about our local postcards. If only more people still supported the snail mail business...

Here is Celine enjoying her The Little Prince notebook that was included as a freebie. I mentioned to Liarnie that my little cousin wanted one of those Le Petit Prince set of notebooks; I asked her if she could inform me when she has stocks of them again. But now, see, she gave her one as a freebie!

You could go to Fikafikafika.com and see what adorable things Liarnie has for you. Also, as far as I know, she's one of the few people (or the only one, I think) who sells Frankie locally. So if you're a fan of the Aussie  magazine, check her shop out.

And now, on to today's edition of "What Have You Done Today?"

Weekly Roundup

Gather round, gather round.

Since there are so many distractions1 ever since I came back from the province, many tall tales weren't told. As much as I wanted to write about things that happened to me in the past few week/s, I was too preoccupied with doing what bums do. So here's a sort of weekly roundup, from the time I came back here to today, not much has happened, but dammit, I want to write about it.

1 Books I bought today (technically yesterday, since it's 2 in the morning). So this is how it feels like. When you have enough money to splurge on books and not feel a tiny bit guilt from doing so. It's a different feeling when you come home with books you had your eyes on for what seems like forever. And Thank God!  for NBS'/Bestseller's sale!

  • Everything is Illuminated, Jonathan Safran Foer
  • Franny and Zooey, J.D. Salinger
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth, Jules Verne

2 A ceramic owl from Saizen2 and The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The same Sunday I arrived back from Legazpi. A little Saizen tarpaulin caught my attention and it reminded me of Ms. Lauren's post about the store. My sister and I dragged our mom to the store. Who had the power to resist cheap, cute and useful things? After frolicking around the store for some time, my sister showed me that little gem. She knows how much I wanted to have an owl figurine. After many failed attempts of acquiring one, we found this owl without any effort. Before going home we stopped by National Bookstore to buy my sister's dissecting kit for her Biology class. I saw the book, grabbed it and didn't look back.

3 One of the things that has kept me occupied for days now (I don't watch Dora btw). This is the reason why I spent a large amount of my time looking for BRrips of movies I have on my "to-watch" list. I might sound ignorant but holy cow, this, by far, is the greatest thing we've had in our lives. Download a movie, transfer to portable harddrive, plug it in the tv, enjoy. I also had the privilege to assemble the stand for the TV.

I'm proud of that little thing even though all I did was to put the screws in and mount the TV on the stand. The latter was a bit tricky to do since I had to assemble it all by myself.

I'm glad the family taught us to do stuff like these.

Well, those were the interesting things that happened to me for the past week. Yes, these things already seem interesting for a bum like me. And yay! I was able to write about it!

———
1 Fast internet connection, the new tv, downloading qued stuff, arranging my bookshelves, unpacking, being a bum.
2 Just in case. It's the original Daiso. They sell almost every kind of stuff there, at low price of 85 pesos. No, this isn't an ad. I just thought of telling you. ;)
